What is IT-Grundschutz-Berater?

Personnel certification by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) under the BSI Act and the BSI Certification Ordinance; the procedure description follows DIN EN ISO/IEC 17024. Second tier of the BSI qualification scheme after the IT-Grundschutz-Praktiker. The exam is administered exclusively by the BSI in Bonn: multiple choice, 90 minutes, on site, up to eight candidates per date. Admission requires a passed Praktiker exam, an advanced course of at least two days with a BSI-listed training provider, five years of IT experience (two of them in information security) and 40 person-days of lead IT-Grundschutz consulting within the last three years. Valid for three years; recertification via activity evidence with a fixed fee of EUR 221. There is no fixed acquisition price: the BSI bills initial certification by time spent, and the mandatory advanced course costs between EUR 1,095 and 1,850 net depending on the provider. The public BSI register lists 234 certified consultants (as of 2026-09-06).

Substance 6/6: practice 3/3 because five years of experience and 40 person-days of consulting must be client-confirmed and checked by the BSI; maintenance 3/3 due to activity evidence for recertification and monitoring up to on-site checks. Market strength 5/6: market 3/3 because a BSI personnel certification is a prerequisite for working in BSI procedures. Scheme 2/3 because the top score is reserved for ISO 17024 accredited bodies; the BSI certifies by statute.
