Overview
What is GSEC?
The GSEC is one of the most respected entry-level certifications for broad IT security fundamentals and enjoys high regard particularly in North American enterprises and government agencies. Unlike Security+ or CC, the GSEC exam is open-book and includes CyberLive components requiring real tasks to be solved in virtual machines – significantly increasing practical value compared to purely theoretical certifications. The associated SANS SEC401 training is expensive but very practice-oriented. The combination of theory and hands-on makes the GSEC a sensible choice for those wanting to signal seriousness. For pure beginners without budget, Security+ is the more cost-effective alternative.
