What is PECB 27001SLI?

The Senior Lead Implementer grade certifies that someone has not merely studied an ISO/IEC 27001 information security management system but has built and run one over a period of years. The examination behind it is the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 27001 Lead Implementer exam; the grade itself follows from evidence of ten years of professional experience, seven of them in information security management, plus 1,000 hours of project work. The credential therefore addresses people who are accountable for ISMS implementations rather than newcomers. Within the PECB range it sits on the implementer side, concerned with building and running the management system rather than auditing it.

Suitable for

ISMS owners with several years of project leadership
Information security officers in ISO/IEC 27001 organisations
Senior consultants on ISMS implementation projects
Leads of ISO/IEC 27001 certification projects

CertMap assessment & background

In the DACH market the PECB implementer line shows up mainly where an ISO/IEC 27001 project needs accredited proof of personal competence. What people underestimate is not the exam but the experience record: three hours of multiple choice according to the PECB certification scheme, plus open book and a 70 percent pass mark, all of that is plannable, whereas ten years of professional experience including seven in information security management and 1,000 project hours are not. That is also the limit of the title. There is no separate exam; the grade is covered by the Lead Implementer exam, and what separates the grades is experience rather than exam performance. Anyone short of those years sits the same exam and stays at a lower grade. Budget 1,000 US dollars for the exam, 500 US dollars for the application, and per three year cycle 390 US dollars plus 180 CPD hours.

About PECB

PECB is a personnel certification body accredited under ISO/IEC 17024 by the International Accreditation Service; its ISO/IEC 27001 credentials appear by name in the accreditation scopes of IAS (PCB-111) and UKAS (schedule 21923). Exams are delivered through a network of more than 2,600 partners and 2,100 trainers, but can also be taken without attending a course; a partner course price includes the exam and certification fees. Rules and exam scope are set out in published scheme documents, currently version 4.7 of the ISO/IEC 27001 Certification Scheme. Validity, CPD duties and the Annual Maintenance Fee are governed by a provider-wide Certification Maintenance Policy.
