What is PECB 27701SLI?
The Senior Lead Implementer grade certifies that someone has not merely studied a privacy information management system under ISO/IEC 27701 but has built and run one over a period of years. The examination behind it is the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 27701 Lead Implementer exam or a recognised equivalent; the grade itself follows from evidence of ten years of professional experience, seven of them in privacy information management, plus 1,000 hours of project work. The credential therefore addresses people who are accountable for PIMS implementations rather than newcomers. Within the PECB range it sits on the implementer side, concerned with building and running the management system rather than auditing it.

In the DACH market the PECB implementer line shows up mainly where a privacy management system needs accredited proof of personal competence. What people underestimate is not the exam but the experience record: three hours, 80 multiple-choice questions, open book and a 70 percent pass mark are all plannable, whereas ten years of professional experience including seven in privacy information management and 1,000 project hours are not. Anyone short of those years does not reach the grade even after passing the exam. Budget 1,000 US dollars for the exam, 500 US dollars for the application, and per three year cycle 390 US dollars plus 180 CPD hours. The limit lies in maintenance: PECB documents the three year cycle but publishes no date of the last revision of the ISO/IEC 27701 exam scheme.

Cost over 5 years
Prerequisites
The Senior Lead Implementer grade requires ten years of professional experience, seven of them in privacy information management, plus at least 1,000 hours of PIMS project work. Candidates must also pass the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 27701 Lead Implementer exam and sign the PECB Code of Ethics.
Exam format
The same exam as the Lead Implementer is taken: 80 multiple-choice questions (stand-alone and scenario-based), open-book, 3 hours, 70 percent passing score. The senior level requires no separate exam, only more professional experience.
Renewal & maintenance
The certification is valid for three years. To renew it, holders report 180 CPD hours over the three year cycle and pay the Annual Maintenance Fee, 390 US dollars per cycle in total. Once the requirements are met, the certification is renewed at the end of the third year. PECB charges no separate recertification fee.
